Five Ways to Grow in Your Faith

I am going to share FIVE ways that you can grow in your faith just by incorporating these small changes into your daily routine. Over time, I have added these things into my life, and it has been so fruitful. I want to preface this by saying that it is important to be mindful of what you are feeding your mind and your soul through what you are listening to or watching.

1. Turn on a Podcast!

The first thing that you can incorporate into your life is to open up your phone and turn on a podcast! Podcasts are great to have on in the background while you’re working or doing chores around the house. However, before you select any podcast, I want to encourage you to find a Christian-based podcast! So that even if you aren’t paying super close attention, you are still feeding your mind and your heart good stuff. A few of my favorite podcasts that I listen to are the WHOA that’s Good Podcast with Sadie Robertson Huff, Pastor Mike Drop with Mike Housholder, and The Naked Marriage. **Side note about The Naked Marriage: Although I’m not married, I love this podcast because I grew up with divorced parents, so I didn’t have examples of healthy conflict in a house or raising kids. Instead of going off of what I see from movies, this podcast has really helped me understand what a Godly marriage looks like and has given me realistic expectations.**

These are all awesome podcasts that are interesting, fun, discussing real-life stuff from hardships to little victories. Having these on while I get ready in the morning, or take Homer on a walk, I am filling my mind and heart with positivity. This totally affects my attitude throughout the day.

2. Read a book!

Okay, second thing is to grab a book and read!! As Christians we are always told to get in the Word. But, there are also so many other books out there to read! I read a fun book, not my bible or books for school, every single night. Sometimes it’s a self-help book, and sometimes it’s fiction. I like to switch it up a lot. For books that are for growing closer to God, my favorite authors are currently Jennie Allen and Beth Moore. For fun fiction books, I have read a lot of Karen Kingsbury, and I am currently reading this book by Francine Rivers. These are just a few examples with so many other great authors out there as well!

3. Watch Netflix!

Yes! Netflix is awesome. Honestly, at the end of the day turning on the TV and just sitting down is a great way to unwind! But, this is where being mindful of what you are watching is important. Netflix has so many great shows on it, but some aren’t necessarily healthy for your mind and soul. I’m not saying that you can’t watch them, but also take into account what is stirring in your heart when you are watching some shows. One of my favorites on Netflix is the Story of God series by National Geographic with Morgan Freeman. It is so good, the narration is good, the picture is good, and it is very educational. I haven’t watched The Chosen yet… It’s actually on YouTube, but I’ve heard great things about it from people I trust. So I am also going to recommend that if you’re looking for something to watch.

4. YouTube!

There are so many great people on YouTube that want to help you walk in your faith. If you’re looking for a couple of new channels, I am subscribed to a few on my channel that you can go check out here. A few I recommend are The East Family with Shawn Johnson and Andrew East, Coffee and Bible Time, and one that was started during COVID and isn’t necessarily Christian but is just really heartwarming is Some Good News.

5. Change your background on your phone!

The final thing that you 99.999% of us already do is to get on our phone. During quarantine, my screen time numbers were alarming. Every time I open and close my phone, I see my screen saver. My last recommendation of something that you can easily incorporate into your life but also be encouraging for your faith is to change your screen saver! I love screen savers from SydMoCo. On Instagram. She posts screen savers every weekend. You can also create your screensaver with your favorite bible verse or words of encouragement on Canva or even in the Bible App on your phone!

To wrap up, I have provided you with five actionable ways that you can incorporate into your life without really changing your routine that will help you grow in your faith! I hope that you try at least one or two of these out!
