May's Song of the Month: Holy Water by We The Kingdom
LISTEN HERE & PUT IT ON REPEAT
Holy Water was released in the fall of 2019 and it has been my go-to song since! When this song first popped up on my Christian Hits playlist, it caught me driving home after class on a hot day in Texas. It was still within my first two months in Seminary and things that I did in my past had me questioning if Seminary was actually the right move for me because I definitely did not deserve God’s forgiveness or the opportunities that He was providing me with by opening so many doors. This song hit just right because Texas heat is no joke and the illustration of water and something sweet hit just hit me and was something I was definitely craving. As I kept playing this song on repeat, it kept imprinting my heart with God’s love and forgiveness, deeper and deeper every time.
The central theme of this song parallel’s with one of the central themes of the Bible, God’s forgiveness. The power behind God’s forgiveness is what keeps me going every day. When I look at moments when I sought forgiveness for actions that had no business ever being forgiven, I am in awe of his will and ability to wipe our crimson stains, clean.
The bridge of the song, “I don’t wanna abuse your grace, God I need it every day. It’s the only thing that ever really makes me wanna change,” reminds me that I am absolutely dependent on God’s forgiveness and grace. The laws that are laid out in the Bible are for our good, for our brothers and sisters good, for everyone’s good. By not repenting from our sins, we are abusing God’s grace.
As I look back at who I was just two years ago, I see the freedom and redemption that comes from God’s grace and His power to forgive all of our sins. It definitely as sweet as honey, like chilled *holy* water on hot Texas day- I absolutely need it.
